The Workshop

could this be the step?

I have 6 hours banked at my current work. I'll be using those hours next week to go to an interview at a production house here in Ottawa. It's for now, a part time gig doing film transfers though generous hours were spoken of. They do a lot of documentary work and television stuff come summer so this could be a pretty neat foot in the door. With this tv series i'm writing.....if I get it good and ready, i could find myself talking to the right people to see if it could be considered for tv, perhaps some more writers, who knows. I'm getting ahead of myself. I just thought I should post now. That is all.

all new link feature to The Warehouse

So the current script is going to take a little vacation. I've decided to put full writing and creative focus on a tv series idea i've had for a year. Pitched it to a teacher last year who works in "the business" who said it was a really good idea. I built a little more into it with character development and season wide story building. Eventually, i'd like to see it on tv to rival against the other Canadian series, Corner Gas. So we'll see how long this project will take to conjure.

Today was a rather stressful day at work as well. Started with me picking up a box which contained a fire extinguisher that, of course, was upside down and fell out of the box, spraying shit everywhere immediately followed by the bosses coming out of a meeting right into the middle of this big smokey area. Yay me. Then given a multitude of busy work jobs that don't need to be done, but could be for those they wish to punish. Turns out, i'm popular for that kind of work. My thoughts: new job soon.

Voted NDP, judge me now!

There's a little old man at work who's awesome. Pure Awesome. He's old and quite angry with life. It would appear that in his earlier days he was the type who drank and smoke a lot of different stuff that brought him to the place he is now. From what I can tell, he's the janitor of the current location for which I am employed.

The past few times I asked how he was doing, he'd reply, "i wish I were drunk," or, " i need a cigarette." Though the last time I saw him he said he was contemplating retirement. Good for him. It'll be another 50 years before I retire. If I get to do what I want, that is. This script is the beginning, next one is the catch. Next one is the tv series I pitch to CBC first, CTV second. I'd much rather have it go through the CBC though.

I've seen a lot of previews for movies this summer. So far the tops goes to DaVinci Code. Second, is a comedy called The Matador, which is out now, or out soon. It looks pretty interesting. Mission impossible 3 looks alright. I'm sure it will be better than the trailer shows.

Munich is an amazing movie. Saw it the other week and it was amazing. I think it should be nominated for many Oscars, though it seems to be one of those, "either it does or it won't at all," kind of films. I think Brokeback Mountain will take a few. Hopefully Capote will get the best actor. Then Munich for best supporting actor. Supporting actress I'm not sure of yet. Best Director, It's a debate yet with myself. I'd like to think Munich, as I would like Cinderella Man to get Supporting Actor, but that's wishful thinking, I'm afraid.

God will give you a Lexus

Got the computer back after a week and a half hiatus and finished the video for online. Starting to get the script online and in proper format starting tomorrow. It'll be good to get it all in one place.

I've found that at times when I have an idea for a film, I make little trailers for it, which in turn gives me more motivation to go out and finish writing it. Worked nicely in school when I produced the Late Night Hick Show and Gangsters.

February will be the decision month. By then I will be either in a better job in Ottawa, Calgary, Edmonton or Europe though more unlikely Toronto. It's time to do a little bit of travelling and move away from the roots here for a little while. I've thought of moving away for a year straight and we'll see if that happens to.

For now though, i'll leave the more interesting post to when I'm drunk tonight

ker plunk!

I've been thinking a bit lately about going back to school. So far this no school thing isn't that fun, what with the responsibilities and bills and all and I was actually thinking about either a Scriptwriting program or go all the way for the Film School.

Then I wondered if I even need it. If I've gained enough knowledge through my schooling already that I don't really need another credit or diploma. Maybe some classes just for fun, but probably not a few more years of school. I always think that that might be an option to get smarter, but I could pass on paying ga zillions of dollars and just learn it as I go. I went to elementary school with one guy who, in grade 2 was smarter than any grade 10. Now in his early 20's he's probably almost as smart as God. But when we were reading Garfield comics he was reading encyclopedias so that's an automatic cheater right there.

Script is coming along interestingly. Its all hand written so far, so as soon as I get my computer back I'll be moving faster with it. I should hire an Oompa Loompa to transfer what i've already written onto my computer and put it all in script format. Though the running working title is The Great Unknown. But in the weeks ahead i'm sure i'll call it something cooler, or more poetic or more ninja.....though this particular story has....no...ninjas. IT'S A WORK IN PROGRESS!!!

The Great Unknown

still thinking of a good working title for the Script. I'm thinking of The Great Unknown. Thinking that the main character could title his journal The Great Unknown or something, and I could use that.

It is quite a lot of fun and i'm looking forward to finishing the first draft of it. Then go through and cut things out and cut it down, add more and cut down more once again.

Hoping to get it at a trim 120 pages. I don't want it to be Lord of the Rings long, but I don't want it to be standard comedy short either. If this film were two hours...ish, I'd be able to construct the concrete elements the right way the script needs to be.

The New Age

haha, I have no recollection of the last post. I think I was in a bad mood after a disagreement at the end of the night. Oh well. Everyone's happy.

New Years day came too early, but came with a Christmas fashioned meal, which was good and for whose left overs will be had tonight by moi. Awesome.

There's been a bit of talk lately about going away for a little while. Talk about working in the oil fields for a year or two. Had me wodering quite a bit. If I were to do that, it'd be a good chance to make some well needed money and i'd have time to write my scripts. Few other people heading out there April, so we'll see what goes on. It's only one of the top ten most dangerous jobs in the world which makes it seem interesting.

I've just came up with this feeling that I need a huge change hugely soon. HUGE! Got a call back about a job in Toronto, so we'll see how that goes and hope well for it!

Aside from everything else, it was good to see the family this weekend and good to meet strangers on new years eve, most of which all seemed to be under five feet tall. It felt like I walked into Hobbiton. I suppose being 6'4 can make that easier sometimes.
