In highschool when I started to seriously think about film and tv, I had it in my head that I was going to Los Angeles for film school. Nothing else would give me the education I felt I needed to get my movies started rolling by 20, Academy Awards by 22 and Hall of Fame by 25. Then I wasn't accepted to the film school I applied to in Toronto and had little choice but to go to Ottawa for a General Arts course for a year to consider my options.
Why Ottawa? Pretty much the only reason was that it was closer to home and closer to the family. Family was always really close, still are, though we don't see eachother as much anymore. It seems I get home about once a month, maybe less at times depending.
Ottawa turned out to be a pretty damn good decision in the end. Met some great people, did some great projects, worked on some interesting movies and just now, a year after school, found a possible longer term job editing. It starts on Tuesday and there's 4 days of learning the art of Avid. After that, it flies into a two month probationary kind of period and from there we'll see if I've got what it takes to keep it going and make something of it.
Also, looking into volunteering at an old folks home to do some research for a script i'm writing. Should prove to be entertaining at times.
Aside from all that, i'll throw another vid up in a few days, haven't decided what yet. Perhaps the NFB doc
